Weight Loss Tip: Never Eat from the Hand of Satan

“For forty days and forty nights he (Jesus) fasted and became very hungry. During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” Matt: 4: 2-3

Jesus was at the end of his 40 day fast, he was hungry and needed something to eat. It was not like Jesus was being tempted to gorge on cherry cheese cake or turn stones into a few bottles of wine. Long before the invention of white floor, bread was a symbol of wholesome food, so why refuse the offer? And why out of 40 days of temptations, is this one temptation so significant that it is mentioned in both Matthew and Luke’s gospels?

The answer is simple. Even though Jesus was hungry and needed food, he refused to allow his actions to be dictated by any temptation. Most of the pounds of excess body fat you hate so much does not come from feeding caloric needs, but feeding craving and temptation. There is no sin in Jesus eating bread at the end of his fast. But every time you eat out of response to temptation you are eating from the hand of Satan. That gives Satan leverage in your life. He’s got you right where he wants you.

The most practical weight loss tip I can give you is stop feed cravings and temptations. When you do, this will break Satan’s control over your diet. You will no longer be driven by craving and food addictions. but healthy hunger.

This will not be easy. Prepare for spiritual warfare. But remember, Jesus has gone before us. When you are in the jaws of craving, speak out loud just as Jesus did, “man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Then feed on His nourishing Word.
